How to get there

Chris Knight writes songs that sound like they come straight from the lives and places he knows. Raised in Slaughters, Kentucky, in the heart of mining country, he earned an agriculture degree from Western Kentucky University and worked in mine reclamation before turning his focus to songwriting and performing.

That lived experience gives his songs their plainspoken force. His 2019 album Almost Daylight includes “I’m William Callahan,” “Crooked Mile,” and “The Damn Truth,” carrying forward the direct, character-driven storytelling of his 1998 self-titled debut. Inspired by John Prine, Knight brings a distinctive voice to stories about rural life and working people.
